First published in the Urban League magazine, Opportunity. It was awarded best poem of the year by the magazine. Theme of the play is music and every day life.

Hughes is best known for his poetry, the critic Donald B. Gibson noted in the introduction to Modern Black Poet: A Collection of Critical Essays, that Hughes " differed from most of his predecessors among black poets... in that he addressed his poetry to the people, specifically black people."
